THERE'S MORE IN THIS MOMENT...

 

I met Ermias Ekube, an Eritrean painter, sculptor, engraver and poet, during one of his exhibitions in Sweden, where he lives.

 

At a glance, you could sense his mastery of the art in his works. Every stroke of painting on canvas or line of charcoal on paper was exactly where, what, why and how it should be, conveying so much more than you could simply see with your eyes. That was sheerly breathtaking.

 

We talked and I almost immediately asked if I could photograph him working in his workshop. He graciously accepted without any hesitation. Since then, we have had several sessions of photoshooting where I get to witness his creative process, his doubts and his tremendous talent.

 

Every minute of life spent in his workshop is scaled-up to art.
